JTerm
Java terminal emulator applet for telenet connections

Image Enabled Terminal Emulator

JTerm is a Java applet for interfacing an image archive to your database or other programs originally written for text-terminals. Use JTerm (Java Terminal emulator) to run your programs just as they are. Keep using your familiar screens to find information. When you locate a specific record, just click a button to view the associated document in ViewTIFF. The document image is displayed instantly, giving the user the impression that document images are "stored in the database."

For example, you may have a database that manages delivery receipts. A click of a button on a web page automatically loads a JTerm terminal emulator for you. You don't do any installing nor configuring since all options are preset at the server. You just log-in. You then use your existing searching features to locate a delivery receipt. Click a button, and the signed copy of the original paper pops on to your screen!

Compatability

JTerm will emulate these terminals connected to
  • Wyse 60
  • VT 100, 220, 320
  • ANSI standard terminals
  • UNIX, including SCO, Linux, HP, Sun, IBM
  • Super DOS (multi-user DOS from Bluebird)
  • IBM AS400 and mainframe systems with ANSI telnet
  • VMS ...or any other telenet compatible system

Your operating system just needs its telnet protocol deamon up and running. JTerm will connect as any terminal emulator would. Users log-in and navigate to a screen that has a related document image. JTerm reads the screen and passes a document ID from the screen to Acordex ViewTIFF for Java, which then displays the document. This display can be automatic (triggered by your database) or can be at the click of a button (triggered by the user).

Why JTerm?

A key advantage of JTerm over other terminal emulators is that all the setup and code resides on your server. It is downloaded to the user on demand. All your users need is a web browser like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari or Firefox. HTML parameters in the <APPLET> tag define everything: the interface from your screens to ViewTIFF, the terminal type, IP addresses, etc. This provides enormous savings over purchasing, configuring, installing and supporting traditional terminal emulators.

The second key advantage is that a simple click of a button connects the entire power of your applications to your image archive. Users have instant access to images without learning any new image management software.

Acordex JTerm is available as an optional enhancement to ViewTIFF for Java.
